GMP Scholars

In the school year 2015-16, there will be 33 children of GMP members in college benefiting from the GMP Memorial Scholarship program. Each winning student in a 4-year degree program receives $4,000 per year, renewable for up to three years, if adequate academic standards are maintained. Each winning student that is enrolled in a two-year program received $2,000 and is renewable for one additional year.

Program Changes

In the school year 2008-2009, the program was broadened. Six award winners receive a $4,000 renewable scholarship for study in a four-year college program.

In 2009, the GMP added four vocational/technical/2-year associate degree programs awards in the amount of up to $2,000 each. These awards may not exceed program costs. The awards are renewable for one year with proper progress toward completion.

To ensure complete impartiality in selection of recipients and to maintain a high level of professionalism, the GMP Memorial Scholarship is administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services (ISTS), Inc., a firm that specializes in managing sponsored scholarship programs.

In 2015, GMP and ISTS announced the program was going “all electronic”. All applications for the 2015-16 academic year were completed online by students at https://aim.applyists.net. Going electronic allowed the students the ability to connect to the ISTS homepage where they could complete the electronic application, upload electronic documents (transcripts and test scores) and the ability to monitor their individual application process through completion.

Donations

The program is funded entirely by donations. Local Unions and individuals contribute in memory of friends, co-workers and loved ones who have died. The memorial contributions, which note the honored persons, are recognized periodically in Horizons.

Applications

The application period for the 2016-17 academic school year will be from October 26, 2015 through January 26, 2017. Students can apply at https://aim.applyists.net using the program key “GMP” or going directly to the application at https://aim.applyists.net/GMP. All documents such as transcripts and test scores can be uploaded directly to the application.
